A very interesting mid-size bronze cannon of Indonesian production for European East India merchants, late 16th / early 17th century. The barrel displays a rare mix of European and Asian elements. The overall shape conforms with 16th century Portugese ordnance, but the coat of arms is purely decorative, and the rear is formed like a Lantaka’s, to take up a wooden grip.
Length of barrel: 115cm (ca. 45″), weight incl. carriage ca. 85kg (187lbs.). Calibre 1/2 lb. The carriage was made of elm wood by Willy Schroeter.
